Civica's Tranman wins Fleet Hero Award 2011
Civica's Tranman wins Fleet Hero Award 2011

The UK’s leaders in ‘greener’ fleet management have been announced at a London ceremony attended by the transport minister Norman Baker.

The Awards highlight public and private organisations that are successfully reducing their carbon footprints - and lowering their fuel bills - through fleet travel and transport policies. They also celebrate companies that supply the most innovative cost and fuel-saving products or services to car and van fleets.  Cutting fuel costs goes hand-in-hand with reducing carbon emissions. With fuel prices at their current high levels there has never been a more rewarding time to focus on good fleet management practices.

Civica's Tranman took the Innovation in Fleet Services and Systems award for their Pool Car Booking web application.  The Tranman Pool Car web application can significantly improve the efficiency of managing a pool car facility, providing drivers with online access to pool car information and availability. This helps employers to meet their aims of reducing carbon emissions, mileage and the overall cost of staff travel.  Access to pool vehicle information online means drivers benefit from a more responsive service and it also encourages car sharing.

In their comments, the judges said that Civica’s system addresses the major issue of maximising the efficiency of pool car use, which is becoming increasingly significant. They viewed Civica’s approach as genuinely innovative and noted that an efficiently run pool-car fleet can be an important instrument in reducing grey fleet mileage.

North Yorkshire Police, the largest force by area in England, recently introduced the Tranman Pool Car web application. The force estimates it will save £36,000 in vehicle hire costs through better vehicle utilisation - and will lower emissions by reducing grey fleet mileage.

Transport Minister Norman Baker MP said: "If the Government is to meet its carbon reduction targets we must decarbonise road transport and making fleet operations greener is a major part of that.
So I am delighted to see such excellent progress in this area - big companies from both the private and public sectors have made huge strides in tackling this issue, using a range of measures such as reducing mileage, encouraging fuel efficient driving and using ultra low carbon vehicles. Not only is all this good for the environment - it makes economic sense too."

Matt Goodstadt, Sales Director - Tranman, Civica, said: “We’re delighted to receive this award from the Energy Savings Trust. It’s a great endorsement of our ability to innovate, helping our customers transform the way they work and deliver cost savings and reduce carbon emissions.”
